Acolytes are lay persons that assist the clergy in leading the worship. At St. Michael’s youth and adults both serve as acolytes. Adult acolytes also serve as chalice bearers to assist with communion. If you are interested in playing an active role in the worship at St. Michael’s, become an acolyte!
The purpose of the Altar Guild is to prepare and have in place all the things essential for the celebration of the Eucharist or any other offices of the church. Altar Guild members set up for baptisms, weddings, funerals, and morning prayer.
The Altar Guild is also responsible for the purchase of communion wafers; altar wine; candles and altar linen as well as the maintenance of altar linens and silver and clergy, choir and acolyte vestments. For this reason this ministry has been called “holy housework.” It is a rewarding ministry enabling one to learn more about the worship of God as it is done in the Episcopal Church.
The Greeters of St. Michael’s are a group of parishioners who make sure that every person feels welcome as soon as they walk through the door at St. Michael’s. Greeters assist worship participants with the service bulletins, seating, and resources, as well as introducing and welcoming newcomers to the parish.
