SUNDAY: Newcomers’ Brunch!
This Sunday, May 20 at 12:30 pm in the Rectory, we’re having a brunch to honor newcomers to St. Michael’s.  This is especially meant for those who have arrived in the last year or so, although all parishioners are encouraged to attend.  Even if you did not RSVP, please join us!

CONCERT ON SUNDAY: The Novosel-Boukas Duo
This Sunday evening at 8:00 pm composers and instrumentalists, Filip Novosel and Richard Boukas are performing in the Church.  Their music is an organic blend of Brazilian, Croatian, jazz, classical, gypsy and other Balkan influences. The concert will follow the Intersection service at which Richard Boukas will be contributing as a vocalist and guitarist. The suggested donation for the concert is $10, and partial proceeds will go to St. Michael’s Music and Arts.

St. Michael’s is a Sacred Site!
Once again, St. Michael’s is participating in the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Sacred Sites program. The church will be open this Saturday and Sunday, May 19 & 20 from 12:00-5:000 pm.  At 2:30 pm on both days, our resident historian and archivist, Jeannie Terepka, will give a brief history talk on “Building Faith on the Upper West Side: Two Centuries of Church and Synagogue Construction.”  Come learn more about the history of our parish and neighborhood!

Several of our neighboring Episcopal Churches are also participating in the Sacred Sites program.  All are welcome to visit Christ & St. Stephen’s (120 W. 69th St.) where there are tours on Saturday from 1:00-4:00 pm and a Festive Evensong at 5:00 pm, and the Church of the Intercession (550 W. 155th St.) for a tour at 3:00 pm on Saturday.

Would Your Child Like to Join Angel Choir?

God’s deeds in many languages…
Next Sunday, May 27 is Pentecost, and we’d like to include a brief reading in as many languages as possible as part of the 10:00 am service.  If you speak a language other than English and would be willing to help, please speak with Mother Liz.

Youth Choirs Talent Night May 30!
The singers from the youth choirs will be performing in the annual Talent Show on Wednesday, May 30 at 7:00pm.  Please come to this annual event of poetry, pageantry and music, and prepare to be dazzled and amazed by our young people’s humor and abilities.  Any youth choir participant interested in performing must contact Jonathan De Vries to sign up at jdevries@saintmichaelschurch.org or (917) 881-4596.

 St. Michael’s 2012 Parish Directory
We are finally putting together an updated directory for all members and friends of the parish.  We encourage you to fill out the form online (this is much easier for us administratively).  Just click on this link or paste it into your browser: https://docs.google.com/a/saintmichaelschurch.org/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDRlOHE4QWhpV3J3cmtvcGxjOHN1Z1E6MQ#gid=0. If you have trouble with the form online, there will be copies of the Directory Information Form at the back of the church on Sunday.  Please contact Andrea Dedmon with any questions: (212) 222-2700, x27 or andrea@saintmichaelschurch.org.  THANK YOU!

Carpenter’s Kids Still Needs Your Help!
Thanks to St. Michael’s parishioners’ generosity, the Carpenter’s Kids meet the basic requirements for school attendance for the fifth year running. However, we have not collected enough money to provide socks and soap like we’ve provided in the past. Join in this effort by writing a check to St. Michaels with Carpenter’s Kids on the memo line.

Children’s Clothing Needed
We have been asked for some gently used clothing for a girl, size 12 (size 3 shoes) & a boy, clothes size 7 (shoes size 13).  If you can help, please speak with Mother Liz.

Summer Camp at Trinity Lutheran Church
During July every summer, our neighbors at Trinity Lutheran on 100th Street run a Day Camp for children entering grades 1-6.  The program includes Bible stories, art, games, trips, and this year, a special musical production to be performed at the end of camp.  They offer scholarships to children from families in need and provide some sorely-needed summer jobs for local youth.  Many St. Michael’s parishioners have supported this effort in the past, and we encourage you to do so this year if you are able.  If you would like to contribute, you can mail a check directly to Trinity Lutheran Church at 164 W. 100th St., NYC 10025, or give us a check which we will forward across the street.  And if a child you know wants to attend Day Camp, please call 212-222-7045.

Lost and Found Items
We have many items in the lost and found box under the reception desk. Please check it for your scarf, your child’s winter coat or any thingamadoodle that you might have lost. In a month or two, we will donate unclaimed items to the Saturday kitchen.

Welcoming a New Part-time Priest
Early in June, St. Michael’s will welcome the Rev. Ronald Phillips, a priest from South Africa, who will be working with us part-time as he completes an advanced degree at the General Theological Seminary.  We look forward to his ministry among us and to the perspective he will bring to us about the church in a different part of the world.  Fr. Phillips will introduce himself more fully at a forum soon after he arrives.  More information to come.

St. Michael’s Ministry with Children and Youth Meeting
Sunday, June 3, 1:00-2:30 pm, the Reception Room.  We’ll provide pizza and childcare.  All parents, Sunday school teachers, and others interested in our vital ministry with children and youth are encouraged to attend.  Bring your imagination & your questions.

Kids at St. Michael’s Over the Summer
Hey kids!  What are you doing this summer?  When you’re in town, we hope you’ll be coming to St. Michael’s on Sundays!  We’re going to continue offering Word Made Young each Sunday at 10:00 am.  Following church, kids of all ages are going to be working together on the Abundant Life Garden Project.  We’ll learn about how people from different countries rely on water, soil, seeds, animals and harvest for their survival.  We’ll plant and care for our own garden in the backyard.  We’ll learn how to care for each other.  And we’ll give thanks to God for all the gifts God gives us in creation.  Kids 11 & older are needed to help the adults lead the Garden Project & Word Made Young.  Please tell Andrea Dedmon if you can help: andrea@saintmichaelschurch.org.  Thanks!
