What is Stewardship?
Stewardship is the wise and
faithful use of our resources – our
time, talents and treasures – all of which we believe have
come to us from God. Stewardship is about community – everybody
reaching everybody. It’s a personal thanksgiving to God for
all the gifts God has given us.
Where does the money go?
It is important to know
that St. Michael’s has a strong commitment
to faithful stewardship of what is given and what is given is used
in service of God’s call to fulfill our Mission. Giving back
to our local community and to the world is a priority for us. St.
Michael’s Saturday Kitchen and shelter program, free music
concerts, Sunday School and Adult Education classes, over 575 worship
services during the year, and so much more.
What does it mean to give proportionally?
Proportional
giving is based on the premise that the fruits are given back to
God in grateful response to what God has given us. It refers to a
conscious effort to determine an appropriate level of giving. We
ask each parishioner to consider making an annual pledge in proportion
to income. It is the teaching of the Episcopal Church and the Biblical
norm to give 10 (the Biblical tithe) percent of one’s income.
We recognize that you may not feel called or equipped to tithe right
now and proportional giving allows you to systematically works towards
the tithe goal by starting at a lower percentage and increasing by
1% or more each year.
