The Episcopal Church Women (ECW), formerly the Women’s Auxiliary,
is the oldest lay organization in continued existence at St. Michael’s
today. Its membership is all the women of the parish. Through
its mission it supports lay ministry in its service to both the parish
and the broader church. Monthly meetings are held on the first Sunday
of the month October through June from 1 – 2 pm. Annual
activities include the Valentine and Christmas Bake Sales and Mini
Bazaars, the Palm Sunday Hot Cross Bun Sale, the Lenten Quiet at
the House of the Redeemer, and guest speaker meetings to which all
parishioners and friends are invited. ECW as well sponsors the bi-annual
United Thank Offering Ingathering (UTO) parish collections.
On the diocesan level, two members of St. Michael’s serve
on the ECW Diocese of New York Board. Throughout the year parish
members participate in s number of diocesan ECW events: the School
of Worship in March; the Annual Meeting and Spring Ingathering in
May; the Annual Stony Point Conference in October; and the Spring
UTO Ingathering in November.
Funds raised by the parish ECW annual food and bazaar sales are
shared with the parish, and Episcopal Church organizations and groups
at the diocesan, national, and international levels.
