The Rev. Leigh Mackintosh (more fondly known as Mother Mack) began her ministry here at Saint Michael’s in October of 2015. Previously, Leigh served in positions at St. Ignatius of Antioch and St. Matthew & St. Timothy’s in Manhattan, St. Paul’s in Lynchburg, and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. Additionally, Leigh served as resident chaplain at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville.
For Leigh, faith is a lively adventure—one that calls us to share in the love of Christ through food, fellowship, formation, and fun together! As a white water raft guide, soccer coach, amateur composer, and violinist, Leigh enjoys coordinating opportunities for ‘Godly play’ that create authentic communities of learning and healing centered around nature, sports, the arts, and more. Leigh also values the ways in which our liturgy, common prayer, and sacraments ground us in our doubts and questions opening us to more fully embrace the Divine Mystery of God.
A native of South Boston, Virginia, Leigh received her B.A. in Music Education at Lynchburg College. Before ordained ministry, Leigh worked at a drug rehabilitation and mental health crisis center for adults and served troubled teens at a boys’ home in Lynchburg, VA. Leigh received her M.Div. at Yale Divinity School, where she was awarded the Liturgical Prize for the Study and Practice of Anglican Liturgy. She is married to Stephanie Eads who works in the music editorial department at W.W. Norton & Co.
